The Reproduction and Genetics (REGE) team represents a dynamic collaborative network that bridges multiple research entities within the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel (UZ Brussel). These include:
Prof. Spits' Laboratory
Led by Prof. Dr. Claudia Spits, this laboratory focuses on genome integrity and its consequences in human pluripotent cells. Prof. Spits supervises an international team of researchers who study the origin and consequences of de novo variation in the genome of human pluripotent cells. Her innovative approach often involves applying new technologies in unconventional ways, pushing technical boundaries to advance understanding in the field.
Brussels IVF
As the centre for reproductive medicine at UZ Brussel, Brussels IVF has established itself as an internationally renowned pioneer in the development and application of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Since its inception in 1983, the center has contributed to the birth of more than 48,000 babies through various fertility treatments. Brussels IVF maintains a strong commitment to scientific research, which is considered an essential feature of its organizational DNA.
Centre for Medical Genetics (CMG)
Located within UZ Brussel, the CMG specialises in clinical research covering a broad spectrum of topics within medical genetics, including reproductive genetics, pre-implantation genetic testing, oncogenetics, cytogenetics, cardiogenetics, and rare genetic diseases. The centre is equipped with advanced infrastructure, including several types of Next Generation Sequencing and microarray equipment, allowing for sophisticated (epi)genetic assays and analysis of large datasets in collaboration with the BRIGHTcore facility.
